Director’s Message

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you all to the web portal of CSB-Institute for Silkworm Seed Technology Research.

CSB-Institute for Silkworm Seed Technology Research (ISTR) is the only institute of its kind in the world that is devoted to the Research & Developmental activities in silkworm seed technology. CSB-ISTR has a streamlined research focus and it positioned itself with strong presence in terms of technology development and human resource generation in the highly specialized area of silkworm seed production.

Silkworm seed, which forms the foundation for the sericulture industry, is critical to the success of commercial cocoon crops and the overall stability of the sericulture industry. Consequently, Institute for Silkworm Seed Technology Research emerged as a pioneer institute in R&D activities and Human resource development of silkworm seed.

This institute has developed preservation technologies for bivoltine (hibernation schedules) and crossbreeds to offer quality silkworm seed to the stakeholders on time. Pebrine disease in the seed areas of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh is being monitored by CSB-ISTR through regular surveys.
